Born in 1984, August 25, Hema sundari vellaluru started dance at tender age of five, under the guidance of her gurus smt. leelavthy and kalashree smt. vyjayanthi kashi. Initially,she learnt bharathanatyam under smt. leelavathy which later changed into kuchipudi dance form under the guidance of guru smt. vyjayanthi kashi. Hema taught many workshops and learnt many folk dance forms such as rajasthani, andhra and kannada, when in shambhavi school of dance. 

 

Hema began her journey into contemporary dance with attakkalari center for movement arts, where she worked as a dancer for 3 yrs. She was trained in kalaripayattu, yoga, pilates, bharathanatyam and copoeira at attakkalari, Apart from giving many international performances as part of the repertory company.

 

As a dancer:

Hema started performing at the age of 13, Under the guidance of her guru smt. vyjayanthi kashi. As part of shambhavi school of dance, bangalore, She was part of more than two hundreds dance performances with various productions of vyjayanthi.

As a contemporary dancer, hema has given several international performances all over the world working as a freelance dancer with various choreographers. 

 

As a teacher:

hema was assisting her teacher in many workshops as well as regular on going classes, grasping the fine quality of detailed teaching from the age of fifteen.

 

Hema has taught children mostly in india and europe. She played a key role in the eduaction outreach program of attakkalari, giving various workshops in contemporary dance, kalaripayattu assisting her seniors as well as teaching invidually.

She has taught many workshops for children of age 

groups 3 to 5 and 10 to 15 in many regional as well as international schools in bangalore. 

 

Internationally, workshops have been taught by her in drama for life festival university of johannesburg, connections dance festival aarhus, Dansensdage copenhagen, Ice skaters group in feltre, italy and many more. 

 

Hema is a very active teacher and believes that she has a natural flare for teaching children. some of the schools where she taught are parikrma center for learning, india international school, greenwood high, srinagar gutte school, a.v. eductaion society, sri vani eductaion center, Vidyashilp academy and so on. 

 

As a Choreographer:

 Teaching children most of the time involves choreography in schools in bangalore. 

Hema has many choreographic works which fit into the vocabulary for children to her credit. 

In 2013, Hema had an opportunity to present her own work " project 3" which revolves around the theme of people trying to fit into a society which is filled with distractions and social behaviours which are common. 

 

"Solos in spaces" was also an initiative taken to present work in progress performances at jaaga, bangalore.
