ARTISTIC STATEMENT:
"Dance is a language of the soul and when one dances, the soul dances with joy.
Such has been the effect of dance in my life.
starting from an innocent age, it had created a wonderful and joyous impact very early on. Through classical dance, i learnt that dance is a message and a dancer is a divine messenger who conveys stories that guide one towards the path of liberation.
As a teenager, i was lucky enough to gain exposure to contemporary dance which was almost unheard of ; in India during the early 2000's. A form where self expression was highly emphasized and freedom of a performer was of utmost importance, contemporary dance taught me many techniques including self awareness and presentation.
After having a successful career of working with different choreographers from all over the world, I have decided to personalize my experience and make projects which provide a reminiscing memory to all the parties involved in it.
We live in a world full of despair, struggle, control, violence, abuse which leaves us with very little hope sometimes. Every individual always wishes to be happy, so, when we wish for eternal happiness why do we struggle? what are we after? where are we going?
Dance is very essential for our present society to realize our real path and my vision as an artist is to assist in the liberation of our souls."

"PROJECT 3":
In April 2013, Hema had an opportunity to present her first individual work as a choreographer. Project 3 involves 3 dancers coming together in a space. The performers interlink their lives as women in a society, sometimes trying to fit in, sometimes trying to co-exist, sometimes backing off from the existence. The choreography involves a culmination of bringing dancers from Indian classical forms to connect with contemporary dance with the same perspective.

"RIGHT TO DANCE":
In July 2016, a performance based on the experiences of children in school was developed by Hema for an under privileged school in Bangalore. "Right to dance" appeals to adults and children of all ages about the struggles and feelings of young ones in a lower middle class society. The project was offered as a voluntary service for the reason that the children were enthusiastic and talented beyond expectations.
