Having diversely trained, Hema started performing at the age of 13. Under the guidance of vyjayanti kashi, She started performing in her productions Such as "ambe"- A tale from mahabharatha , "chaluva kannada naadu" - beautiful karnataka, "dashadikpalaka stuthi"- vedic chants, "srishti"-creation of the universe and several others in Bharathanatyam and kuchipudi styles apart from learning traditional pieces choreographed by guru vyjayanti.

 

She exclusively performed along with her guru in some of the major festivals such as malkhed utsav, uday shankar ballet festival,

At the age of 20, Hema's focused changed into contemporary movement at attakkalari center for movement arts, Bangalore where she worked as a dancer for 3 yrs. Further, Hema was part of "purushartha" a multimedia collaborative production created by Artistic director Jayachandran Palazhy.

As part of attakkalari's repertory company, Hema performed in various international festivals. Such as

Since 2008, hema has worked on freelance projects in india and abroad mostly experimental work. Some of the freelance works include:

* Worked as a dancer for Angika dance company, London in 2008.

*Worked as a dancer/choreographer for tribhangi dance theater in 2009. 

*Participated in Arsenale Della Danza, professional training course as part of la biennale de venezia, italy In 2010.

*Worked as a dancer for starting point # 3 choreographer felix buerkle, Germany as a collaboration through goethe institute/ max mueller bhavan 2011.

*Worked as a dancer for ninteen mantras directed by Giorgio corsetti,Company fattore, Roma,

Italy 2012.

*Worked as a dancer for S20 company's 4. Temporal pattern Choreographed by Hiroaki Umeda 2012/2013. 

*Worked for a start up company in Thailand as a choreographer/ teacher In 2014.
